Bima Arya Receives Mandate as Chairman of the 2023 Asian Mayors Forum


 
Chairman of the Association of Indonesian City Governments (APEKSI) Bima Arya received the flag from the Governor of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Khuong Sreng as a sign of handover from the Chairman of the ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) 2023 which will be held in Indonesia.
 
The handover procession was also witnessed by President EAROPH International who is also Deputy Governor of East Java Emil Dardak and Mayors throughout ASEAN, Saturday (3/12/2022).
 
“The chairman’s handover is part of the continuation of the discussion later in Indonesia in 2023. In Phnom Penh we discussed many urban issues, related to disasters, smart cities and achievement of SDGs from each city. It also provides an overview of the best practices of cities in Asean regarding these themes,” said Bima Arya.
 
The themes of discussion in the forum included, ‘Financial governance for urban development’, ‘A holistic approach for Smart Cities, Resilient Cities and Sustainable Cities’, ‘ASEAN Sustainable Urbanization’, ‘Accelerating the Digitalization of ASEAN Cities in Government and Society’, Exploring SGDs Implementation Collaboration at Local and Regional Levels in ASEAN Cities’, and ‘Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change in ASEAN Cities’.
 
Bima added, the Governor of Phnom Penh also expressed his appreciation for cooperation on matters relating to urban development. In particular, he would like to express his appreciation to APEKSI for attending and continuing to contribute to the Asean Mayoral Forum.
 
“The ideas and successful practices in each city that were presented at the panel discussion yesterday were then agreed upon to become a declaration of Asean cities. Apart from urban issues, one of the points of the declaration agreed to involve youth and the unemployed through innovative programs and projects,” he concluded.
