Medan – The Medan City Government, as host of the 18th APEKSI National Working Meeting (Rakernas) in 2026, held a Gala Dinner to welcome mayors, regional secretaries, and delegates from APEKSI member cities from across Indonesia. The evening of camaraderie took place in a warm and spirited atmosphere, showcasing a variety of performing arts and culinary delights typical of North Sumatra, reflecting Medan’s cultural diversity. This event served as a momentum to strengthen ties and strengthen collaborative networks between city governments before moving on to the main agenda of the Rakernas.
The Gala Dinner also coincided with the Closing Ceremony of GEMES (Gelar Melayu Serumpun), an international cultural event bringing together delegates from Southeast Asian countries with Malay roots and heritage. The closing ceremony of GEMES featured cultural performances from various regions in Indonesia and neighboring countries, symbolizing brotherhood, cultural preservation, and strengthening cultural diplomacy in the region. The presence of the participants of the XVIII APEKSI National Working Meeting at the closing of GEMES further emphasized the importance of culture as a bridge for collaboration between regions and nations, while strengthening the position of Medan City as an open, multicultural city that plays an active role in building regional cooperation through culture.
