City Introduction
During the sultanate, Banda Aceh was known as Bandar Aceh Darussalam. The city was built by Sultan Johan Syah on Friday, the 1st of Ramadan 601 H (22 April 1205 AD). Currently, Banda Aceh is 813 years old. Banda Aceh is one of the oldest Islamic cities in Southeast Asia. The city of Banda Aceh also plays an important role in the spread of Islam throughout the archipelago/Indonesia. Therefore, the city is also known as the Veranda of Mecca.
