Strengthening Mitigation: 24 City Governments from Regional Commissariat I Sign Disaster Management Cooperation

 

 

Padang – The APEKSI Regional Commissariat (Komwil) I held a disaster management seminar in Padang City on Wednesday (September 30). This strategic meeting, attended by delegations from the 24 member city governments of Komwil I, aimed to align perspectives, strengthen mitigation systems, and enhance regional preparedness for potential natural disasters. The seminar focused primarily on the standardization of early warning systems, infrastructure resilience, and integrated emergency management.

 

During the presentation session, Padang Mayor Fadly Amran—acting as the host—shared tactical insights regarding the development and management of disaster preparedness systems in Padang City. The forum, which also featured experts from the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) and the West Sumatra Provincial Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), served as a platform for regional heads and BPBD leaders to exchange knowledge and best practices. Through these comprehensive discussions, it is hoped that each region will be able to adopt mitigation regulations and policies that are better adapted to the specific geological and hydrometeorological threats present in their respective areas.

 

The event culminated in the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) of provide disaster management assistance among APEKSI Komwil I member cities. Under this formal agreement, all participating cities committed to providing mutual support—including personnel, logistics, and operational technical assistance—whenever an emergency occurs in any member’s territory. This synergy underscores APEKSI’s collective commitment to building regional resilience in a structured manner while accelerating post-disaster response efforts of protect the general public.
