Medan — The Environmental Forum (FLH) was officially held as part of the 18th APEKSI National Working Meeting (Rakernas) series, under the theme “From Commitment to Action: Resilience to Accelerate Emission Reduction for a Sustainable Earth.” This forum serves as a strategic platform for city governments across Indonesia to strengthen collaboration in addressing increasingly complex urban environmental challenges. Through discussions, the exchange of best practices, and the development of joint recommendations, participants were encouraged to develop concrete steps to control environmental pollution and accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The discussions focused on various strategic issues, including waste management, the use of environmentally friendly technologies, the development of green open spaces, low-emission development, and strengthening inclusive mobility in urban areas. The forum, held in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) format, featured speakers from various city governments, including Surabaya, Bukittinggi, Balikpapan, Makassar, and Medan, and involved representatives from the Ministry of Environment, academics, and practitioners. In addition to the discussion sessions, participants also participated in interactive polls and developed joint advocacy as the basis for applicable and solution-oriented policy recommendations.
The 2026 APEKSI Environmental Forum also features the Tangguh Gallery, an exhibition showcasing best environmental management practices from APEKSI member city governments, serving as a medium for education, inspiration, and knowledge exchange between regions. This forum is expected to produce strategic recommendation documents, joint advocacy statements with city governments, and strengthen commitments to realizing low-emission, climate-resilient, and sustainable urban development. The resulting collaborative spirit serves as a crucial foundation for city governments in accelerating the realization of Golden Indonesia 2045 through innovative and impactful environmental policies.
