Jakarta — APEKSI attended the UCLG ASPAC Urban Climate Forum (UCF) 2026, held on September 16–17, 2026, in Jakarta. This strategic forum brought together local leaders, mayors, national government officials, academics, and representatives from international organizations across the Asia-Pacific region to develop concrete measures to address the global climate crisis.
Centered on the theme “Advancing Urban Transformation through Climate Action and Governance,” the forum highlighted the urgent need to shift from fragmented, project-based interventions toward systemic and institutionalized approaches. Amid rapid urbanization in the Asia-Pacific, cities are called upon to integrate climate resilience policies into their long-term spatial planning and local budgets.
The Urban Climate Forum 2026 facilitated intensive dialogue across several key focus areas, including:
- Urban Mobility: Transforming public transportation to be environmentally friendly and reducing carbon emissions within the transport sector.
- Energy Transition: Increasing the adoption of renewable energy in public infrastructure and enhancing energy efficiency in urban buildings.
- Solid Waste Management: Implementing circular economy principles and integrated waste management to minimize greenhouse gas emissions from landfills.
- Voluntary Local Reviews (VLR): Encouraging local governments to report their progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) independently and transparently.
- Localizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045: Aligning Southeast Asian regional targets with tangible actions at the local level (cities and regencies).
