The city of Medan continues to gear up for its role on the national stage. On January 15, 2026, a collaborative atmosphere filled the Pendopo of the Mayor’s Official Residence as Mayor Rico Waas personally led the Coordination Meeting for the XVIII APEKSI National Working Meeting (Rakernas). Carrying the grand theme “Resilient Cities, Sovereign Nation,” this meeting marks a crucial milestone for Medan as it refines its readiness to be an inclusive and professional host. The synergy between the Medan City Government and the APEKSI Directorate is expected to create an event that is not only ceremonially grand but also delivers a tangible impact on the economic and social sovereignty of urban areas across Indonesia.
The coordination meeting was comprehensive, featuring an in-depth presentation by Assistant for Governance M. Sofyan, followed by an explanation of national event operational standards by the Executive Director of APEKSI, Alwis Rustam. The presence of the Chairperson of TP PKK/Dekranasda, Airin Rico Waas, alongside all heads of regional government agencies (OPD), underscores that these preparations involve all elements of the administration as the local organizing committee. Beyond boardroom discussions, the APEKSI Directorate team and the Medan City Government also conducted direct field inspections of various strategic venues that will serve as the event’s hubs, including preparations for the prestigious Indonesia City Expo.
