APEKSI and Cities to Attend AGMF 2025

Kuala Lumpur. The ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF) 2025, held in conjunction with the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanization Forum (ASUF) and the Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC), was held on 12-14 August 2025.

The forum brought together city leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the future of ASEAN cities under the theme “ASEAN Future Cities and Regions: Inclusivity and Sustainability,” emphasizing the central role of local governments in the ASEAN 2045 vision. The opening session emphasized collaboration, with YB Nga Kor Ming, Malaysia’s Minister of Housing and Local Government, calling for bold action and innovative solutions to balance economic growth with sustainability, including affordable housing, low-carbon transportation, and smart waste management.

The forum served as an important platform for city leaders to share experiences, best practices, and challenges in realizing inclusive and sustainable cities. The discussions demonstrated a strong commitment from various parties to work together to address complex urban issues. With a focus on building innovation, strengthening resilience, and empowering local governments, AGMF 2025 is expected to be a catalyst for the transformation of ASEAN cities towards a better future, in line with global sustainable development goals.
