BANJARMASIN CITY — Banjarmasin City is one of three cities in coastal/river areas that received Training Assistance on the Procedures for Calculating Waste Management Tariffs and Retributions. This activity is a collaboration between APEKSI, GIZ, 3RProMar, Waste4Change, and the Directorate of Waste Management of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
The FGD with the Banjarmasin City regional apparatus was held on Wednesday-Thursday, October 23-24, 2024. This FGD aims to identify and validate the appropriate waste management scheme (SPS), as well as identify the SPS scheme and assumptions that are the basis for calculating waste management tariffs in Banjarmasin City.
In his remarks, Kunto Bimaji, Head of the Environmental Sub-Directorate, SUPD I Directorate, Directorate General of Regional Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, said that the City Government has a central role in waste management and requires an optimal mechanism, including financing. One option is through retribution. This is in accordance with the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 7 of 2021.
The Mayor of Banjarmasin, H. Ibnu Sina, was present and opened the FGD activity. “The Banjarmasin City Government supports the initiative to assist in the calculation of fair waste rates and levies,” said Ibnu Sina. He hopes that the results of the FGD can be useful and inspire improvements in Banjarmasin City.
The FGD process was guided by Mochamad Satya Oktamalandi and Amrizal Amri from Waste4Change. The participants who attended were very enthusiastic about following the discussion process.
When closing the event, Sicillia Leiwakabessy, from the Association of Indonesian City Governments (APEKSI) said that Banjarmasin City has the modality and uniqueness as a river city. He hopes that in the future there will be good practices that can be documented and become a lesson for other cities. [GS]
