City Introduction
The name Sorong comes from the word SOREN which comes from the Biak Numfor language which means the Deepest and Wavy Sea, the word SOREN was first used by the Biak Numfor tribe who sailed in ancient times with sailing boats from one island to another until they arrived and settled in the Raja Ampat islands.
The Biak Numfor tribe gave the name of the Maladum mainland as SOREN which was then pronounced by Chinese traders, Missionaries from Europe, Maluku and Sangihe Talau as Sorong.
