Jaga Kota or Guard City
The wave of demonstrations from late August to early September 2025 left a trail of damage in several Indonesian cities. The demonstrations, initially intended to convey aspirations, in some places devolved into riots that damaged public facilities, government offices, and even cultural heritage sites. Numerous public services were disrupted, and in some cases, there were fatalities.
As an association of city governments, APEKSI compiled a rapid assessment to capture the scale of the damage, disruptions to public services, and the narratives emerging in the media. This report is intended to strengthen shared understanding and serve as a basis for future recovery and mitigation measures.
