APEKSI Shares Update on Women’s Leadership in City Government

 

APEKSI Provides an update on Indonesia’s achievements with the title: APEKSI’s Women in Local Government, on 22 October 2024 in ZhengZhou – China, attended by participants from UCLG Asia Pacific.

 

APEKSI Executive Director, Alwis Rustam delivered an update on achievements by presenting Female Mayors within the last 10 years, women who served as Regional Secretaries and Head of Bappeda in five years. Alwis Rustam also conveyed the obstacles and challenges of Women as strategic leaders, namely: Self-reliance Questioning, Structural barriers and Cultural barriers, but in this case, there are several things that can break through this phenomenon, namely affirmative action by implementing minimum quotas to ensure women’s representation and participation in politics and bureaucracy. and ensuring transparency and objective evaluation in the recruitment process to eliminate gender bias, in addition to recognizing women’s leadership.

 

In addition to the “UCLG ASPAC Standing Committee on Women in Local Governments (SCWILG)” session in the “THE SECOND SESSION OF THE 2024 UCLG ASPAC EXECUTIVE BUREAU AND THE 2024 COUNCIL MEETINGS”, APEKSI is actively involved in several forums as the Executive Berau South East Asia at UCLG ASPAC, and is involved in the Presidential and Committees Meetings.
